The winds of change are blowing through Europe once again, and it seems that they finally move thing around. The once very anti online casino gambling government of Italy has decided to embrace the online gambling industry, and will auction some 17,000 gambling licenses for operators around the country. Italy wants to make gambling a part of its economy, and wants operators to list for its new licensing plan. Among those licenses, the government will also offer online casino licenses for operators looking to offer online sports and online casino gambling for the Italian and European market.
The online casino industry is rolling billions of dollars each year, and taxing it means that the Italian government will enjoy some of the massive cash flow that the industry is generating. Models of regulation already exists in many countries, but this is a major stop forward as a key player in the European Union -and one that opposed the online casino industry for sometime- decides to grant gambling licenses and open a portal for the industry at the heart of Europe. There are already gambling groups that listed for a gambling license, and there are plenty other online casino firms on the way.
Italy's new approach will clearly affect the rest of the European countries. Greece and Ireland, for example, both consider regulating the online casino industry, but have taken no action in that direction. Following the situation in Italy, Greece and Ireland will hopefully decide to seriously promote online casino regulation, and the internet gambling industry in Europe will become stronger than ever.
